The tension up in this film…bru. Got me gripping onto my hair.
I loved the first Cloverfield with the hand- held, found footage technique. It made it so much suspenseful. I know a lot of people was not into it.
The second instalment, 10 Cloverfield Lane is honestly like a pot of boil water that you are anticipating to see it boil over. This sci-fi/horror/thriller is set in one location unlike the first.
That location being a survival banker with a somewhat creepy-yet-not-so-creepy guy.
Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) suffers a few injuries in a fatal car accidents and wakes up in a big room on a mattress. She soon learns that Howard (John Goodman) is actually there to help her and did not kidnap her at all.
Or did he?
She is slowly coming to terms with that the world is destroyed outside. She learns that she is not only one in the bunker that Howard saved. Emmett (John Gallagher) actually injured himself while trying to enter the bunker as the world was coming to an end.
Three people in a bunker. One possibly psychotic man.
Michelle and Emmet soon believe that conspiracy nut case, Howard is not who seems to be. They believe he was connected to a teenage girl that had gone missing years ago. Michelle learns that this true when she finds the girls’ earrings and realizes that she is wearing her top as well.
Not only do they have to deal with Howard and but there’s scary sounds coming from above 10 Cloverfield Lane. They devised a plan to get Howard’s gun off him. But this soon fails when Howard shoots Emmet and disposes his body in an acid tank.
Man, is Michelle messed after seeing Emmet being shot.
Up until this point there is no hint of aliens. It had me questioning whether this film is part of the first Cloverfield. Just when I thought the film was quite finish. The strong, clever and very determined, Michelle fights her way.
The bunker is slowly burning down as she crawls her way through the air ventilation. Almost free from Howard and the bunker. She puts on her DIY- duct tape hazmat made suit and ventures into the chemical waste land.
The chemical waste land being clean, and big farm.
The bunker blows up and alerts some scary looking aliens. Just when Michelle thought she was free and now has to fight off aliens.
That poor girl.
J.J. Abrams company Bad Robot did a great job on this film. Kept getting the feeling that there was danger coming but I just couldn’t explain why. This film is a nightmare I wouldn’t be in.
I’ll rather take on Freddy Kruger than both Cloverfields.
The acting is great. The tension between Michelle and Howard. The scene where she plans to take the keys tied to his belt. They both trying to outsmart each other. I love that film and has direction from debut director, Dan Trachtenberg. Every is kept tight like you trapped in that bunker with Howard himself.
This film brilliant and if it requires a second watch then you know it’s good. Especially with an unpredictable ending but a tiny bit obvious. J.J. Abrams bring on the next but also not actually next part of Cloverfield.
The Scripture says.
